USA Track bids to host 2019 world championships

USA Track and Field has submitted a bid to host the 2019 world championships in Eugene, Oregon.

If selected, this would be the first time the track competition has been held in the U.S. since the event began in 1983.

Barcelona, Spain, and Doha, Qatar, are also up for consideration. The International Association of Athletic Federations council will make a decision Nov. 18 in Monaco.

USATF submitted the bid along with TrackTown USA, which served as the local organizing committee for the 2014 world junior championships in Eugene two months ago.

Max Siegel, the CEO of USATF, says his organization ''considers it a duty and an honor'' to host international competitions.

The world championships are held every two years. Beijing will host in 2015 and London in 2017.
