Upton denies relationship with Verlander

If you thought a Valentine's Day television interview was the perfect setting to announce a romantic celebrity relationship, you thought wrong.

Buxom blond supermodel Kate Upton wasn't divulging anything.

In fact, Upton — touting her latest cover appearance on the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue — told a FOX 2 reporter in Detroit that she's "single" when questioned about a long-rumored relationship with Tigers ace Justin Verlander.

Gossip of their relationship first started after Upton, wearing a Tigers baseball cap, was seen in Verlander's Comerica Park suite last July.

In early January, the New York Post reported that Upton and Verlander spent New Year's Eve at the Ritz-Carlton on St. Thomas.

Verlander, by the way, is currently tuning up for the 2013 season in Lakeland, Fla.
