UC adds Miami (Fla.) to football schedule
UC athletic director Whit Babcock announced Tuesday that the Bearcats will face the University of Miami in a home-and-home series of football games beginning next season. The Bearcats will travel to Miami to play the Hurricanes on Oct. 11, 2014. Miami will return the trip to Cincinnati and play at Nippert Stadium on Oct. 3, 2015.
Renovations to Nippert, scheduled to start after the end of this season, are expected to be completed in time for the 2015 season. The Miami game will not be the opening game at renovated Nippert but will be a prime match-up for the Bearcats at home that season.
UC head coach Tommy Tuberville was an assistant coach at Miami under Jimmy Johnson and Dennis Erickson from 1986-93, helping the Hurricanes to three national championships, an 87-9 record and nine straight New Year's Day bowl appearances. Offensive coordinator Eddie Gran was also an assistant at Miami, from 1990-91.
The Bearcats are 8-2 this season, including a 5-1 record in The American Athletic Conference. They are tied with No. 21 Louisville for second place behind No. 17 Central Florida (8-1, 5-0). UC travels to Houston (7-3, 4-2) this Saturday before hosting Louisville on Dec. 5. UC and Central Florida do not play this season.
The Bearcats also have Ohio State on the road schedule for next season. They will play their 2014 home games at Paul Brown Stadium while renovations at Nippert are on-going. UC has a home-and-home series with Brigham Young in 2015-16, as well future games at Purdue (2016) and at Michigan (2017).
