Twins send 5 pitchers to minor leagues

The Minnesota Twins pared their spring training roster to 48 players by optioning five pitchers to the minor leagues.



Left-handers Stephen Gonsalves and Adalberto Mejia and right-handers John Curtiss and Aaron Slegers were sent to Triple-A Rochester while right-hander Fernando Romero was optioned to Double-A Chattanooga.

Mejia made 21 starts with the Twins last season, posting a 4.50 ERA and 1.571 WHIP in 98 innings. Curtiss and Slegers also saw brief time with Minnesota in 2017.

Gonsalves and Romero, both 23, are considered two of the Twins' top pitching prospects.
