Twins recall pitchers Dean, Kintzler; Escobar heads to DL

One day after making a number of roster moves, the Minnesota Twins were back at it Saturday.

The Twins shuffled their pitching staff by recallig relievers Pat Dean and Brandon Kintzler while outrighting Tommy Milone to Triple-A Rochester. Also, reliever Casey Fien was claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

In addition, infielder Eduardo Escobar was placed on the disabled list and Jorge Polanco recalled from Rochester.

Dean, a 26-year-old left-hander who was Minnesota's third-round pick in 2010 has never appeared in the majors. He led Triple-A in innings pitched last season with 179, when he had a 2.82 ERA and 1.151 WHIP for Rochester. In six starts this season for the Red Wings, Dean is 1-3 with a 3.0 ERA and 1.111 WHIP.

Kintzler ptched in 172 games for Milwaukee from 2010-15 with a 3.38 ERA and 1.287 WHIP. For Rochester this season, he had a 3.52 ERA and 1.174 WHIP in 15 1/3 innings.

Milone appeared in five games, with four starts, posting a 5.79 ERA and 1.414 WHIP.

After three solid years out of the bullpen for Minnesota, Fien struggled in 2016 to the tune of a 7.90 ERA and 1.756 WHIP.

Escobar was batting just .237 in 27 games and suffered a left groin strain in Friday's game against the Chicago White Sox. Polanco was recently sent down, but could be recalled immediately due to the injury. He is 1 for 7 with the Twins in 2016.
