Twins recall Duffey for spot start, option Polanco

The Minnesota Twins will recall right-handed pitcher Tyler Duffey from Triple-A Rochester before Sunday afternoon's finale against the Nationals in Washington. Duffey will make the start in place of right-handed pitcher Ervin Santana, who will take the time to rest a sore lower back before his next start.

In 10 games as a rookie last year, Duffey was 5-1. He is 0-0 in three starts for the Red Wings this season, with a 1.72 ERA in 15.2 innings pitched, with seven walks and 13 strikeouts.

The Twins optioned infielder Jorge Polanco to Triple-A Rochester after Saturday's game to make room on the 25-man roster.
