Twins' Miguel Sano named AL Rookie of the Month
Even after the month ended, Miguel Sano's hot August continued.
On Wednesday, the Minnesota Twins third baseman/designated hitter was named the American League Rookie of the Month. He led all rookies in runs scored, home runs, RBI and walks in August. Sano hit .278 with seven doubles, nine home runs, 18 runs scored and 26 RBI over 27 games.
It was the first time this season Sano has won the award, and it was the first time a Twins player has been honored since outfielder Ben Revere in June 2011.
On Aug. 12 against the Rangers, Sano had the first multi-homer game of his career, going 3 for 3 with two home runs and six RBI. The six runs driven in tied a Minnesota single-game rookie record.
In six of his final 12 games in August, Sano homered. For the season, the Dominican Republic native leads AL rookies in on-base percentage (.403) and slugging percentage (.608).
