Twins' Mauer wins AL Player of the Week award

Joe Mauer has slugged his way to his first player of the week award since 2009.

The Minnesota Twins first baseman was named the American League Player of the Week on Tuesday after racking up seven RBI, seven runs scored, four home runs and three walks last week.

Mauer hit .440 while leading the Twins to a 4-2 record and a sweep of the Seattle Mariners.

The veteran's big week upped his average to .280 on the season, while Mauer collected his team-leading 50th hit of the season on Sunday against the Mariners.
