Twins invite 25 non-roster players to training camp

MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Twins announced their list of non-roster invitees to this year’s spring training — and it's a long list.

The Twins invited 25 players not on the big league roster to spring training in Fort Myers, Fla., including a few familiar names. Reliever Phil Dumatrait, catcher Rene Rivera and outfielder Brian Dinkelman all spent time in the majors with the Twins in 2011 and are among the 25 invitees.

Other pitchers include: Jason Bulger, Jared Burton, Sam Deduno, Casey Fien, Luis Perdomo, Aaron Thompson, Daryl Thompson, P.J. Walters and Brendan Wise.

Along with Rivera, the Twins have also invited catchers Chris Herrman, Danny Lehman, Dan Rohlfing and J.R. Towles to camp. Towles played in 54 games for Houston last season, his fifth year with the Astros.

The list of infielders includes third baseman Sean Burroughs, who spent 78 games with the Arizona Diamondbacks last season and hit .273/.289/.336 in 110 at-bats. Other infielders include Aaron Bates, Ray Chang, Brian Dozier, Pedro Florimon, Michael Hollimon and Steve Pearce.

Joining Dinkelman as outfielder invitees are Matt Carson and Wilkin Ramirez.

Minnesota also announced Tuesday that former Twins pitchers Eddie Guardado and Jim Kaat will join Tom Kelly, Tony Oliva, Terry Steinbach, Rod Carew and Paul Molitor as instructors during spring training. Pitchers and catchers will report to Fort Myers on Feb. 18, with the rest of the players set to report on Feb. 23.
