Twins' Buxton named AL Player of the Week after power surge
Byron Buxton's red-hot bat has earned the Minnesota Twins outfielder his first league-wide award.
The league announced Monday that Buxton has been named the American League Player of the Week after hitting .333/.343/.818 with five home runs and 10 RBI in eight games.
Buxton became just the eighth player in Twins history to hit three home runs in a single game after clubbing the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday.
The 23-year-old has come on strong over the last few months after a rough start, and is hitting .330 this month with eight home runs.
The No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 draft, Buxton made his Twins debut in 2015.
