Tuivailala lands in Memphis after Cardinals' option
The St. Louis Cardinals removed Sam Tuivailala from consideration for a season-opening spot in their bullpen when they optioned the right-hander to Triple-A Memphis after beating the Nationals on Wednesday afternoon.
Tuivailala had a 5.40 ERA in six spring games with the Cardinals. He had 12 strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings.
The move reduced the number of players in the team’s major league camp to 42, including 11 non-roster invitees.
