Three takeaways from the Blue Jackets 4-1 loss to the Coyotes

One: They were getting hemmed into their own zone early, playing with some slow legs. Brandon Dubinsky recognized the need for a spark and traded blows with Kyle Chipchura midway through the period. After this, they had a better jump in their step and were able to exert pressure and keep possession in the Coyotes zone.

Two: The Blue Jackets had a hard time matching the physical play of the Coyotes. With Arizona being sellers at the trade deadline, their players ramped up their play. Columbus showed no chemistry on any of their forward lines as many of the guys were just going through the motions for long stretches.

Three: This was a game that could have been won. Unfortunately for the Blue Jackets, they were not ready to go when the puck dropped to start the game. Do they have the skill and physical ability to do better? Absolutely, they do. The fans have come to expect better from their team and the players know this. Heaven forbid if they allow the country club to creep back into the room.
