The No. 3 Back On Track With Earnhardt Family

Another Earnhardt family member is going racing and putting the fabled No. 3 back on track.

Twelve-year-old Karsyn Elledge, daughter of JR Motorsports general manager Kelley Earnhardt-Miller and former NASCAR crew chief Jimmy Elledge, was at Sonoma Raceway Saturday, unveiling her Nickelodeon-sponsored winged Mini Outlaw Sprint Series car, which she will race out West this summer.

Jimmy Elledge has moved back to his native Redding, Calif. area and his daughter will live with him while she races in California and Montana.

Elledge, the granddaughter of the late Dale Earnhardt, will carry the No. 3 on her car.

“I didn’t get to meet him,” Karsyn said of her late grandfather. “But I know that it makes my mom and dad proud that I run this number. I’ve only heard how great it was with this number, this legacy. And so I’ve decided to carry it on.”

Karsyn said she doesn’t yet know how far she wants to go up the racing ladder.

“People ask me that a lot and my answer is I don’t really know,” she said. “I hope that I can try it out, and if it happens, it happens. But I don’t really have a plan.”
