A former teammate of the Maryland man charged in the death of a 13-year-old Virginia girl says he was a good student who never got into any trouble.

Joe Keating, who was a co-captain alongside David Eisenhauer on the track team at their Maryland high school, Wilde Lake High School in Columbia, said he's ''appalled'' by the news that the 18-year-old has been charged with the death of Nicole Madison Lovell.

Keating described Eisenhauer as a normal kid who enjoyed school and never started any problems. Keating said all of his friends are ''in total shock.''

Eisenhauer is being held at the county jail on one count of first-degree murder and one count of abduction.
