Texas Longhorns Daily Notebook: Mack Brown reflects on campus shooting

* Texas coach Mack Brown took time Wednesday to talk about the shooting incident on the Longhorns' campus, where Colton Tooley sprayed AK-47 bullets before taking his own life. Nobody else was killed in the incident.

Brown sent his prayers out to Colton Tooley's family and friends, and praised Texas's risk management and the way they handled the situation. He said only one Longhorn was really affected by the incident, as he was moved from his dorm room nearby. Brown was also worried about his daughter, Barbara, who works near where the incident occurred. After about 30 minutes, Brown was able to make contact with Barbara.

Brown said that the process was emotionally draining, but added that the players were able to practice on-time -- Brown said it was a good session -- and get their work done.

"It was a long day, and a tough day for us," Brown said. "But that's what you do, and that's your job. So we tried to pick the guys back up and go back to work anyway.

"I think yesterday was a great reminder that football is not life and death," Brown said. "It's very, very important at Texas. It's very important to us. But obviously, people's lives are more important than some football games. So we're able to put things back in perspective a little bit as well."
