Team Canada adds Blues' Bouwmeester for World Cup of Hockey

The St. Louis Blues will have seven players on World Cup of Hockey teams next month, thanks to the addition of defenseman Jay Bouwmeester to Team Canada, it was announced Wednesday.

Bouwmeester joins fellow defenseman Alex Pietrangelo on Team Canada's roster. In addition, defenseman Colton Parayko (North America), forward Vladimir Tarasenko (Russia), forward Jori Lehtera (Finland) and forwards Dmitrij Jaskin and Vladimir Sobotka (Czech Republic) will participate. Sobotka has been playing in the Kontinental Hockey League the last two seasons, but the Blues retain his NHL rights.

Bouwmeester, 32, will be making his 11th appearance for Canada on the national stage. A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Bouwmeester is a six-time medalist, including earning gold at the 2014 Winter Olympics, the 2003 and 2004 World Championships and the 2004 World Cup.

The World Cup will begin Sept. 17 and run through Oct. 1.
