TCU rallies from big halftime deficit to beat Tennessee

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) -- Malique Trent scored 14 of his 15 points after halftime as TCU rallied from a 14-point deficit to end a five-game losing streak, beating Tennessee 75-63 on Saturday in the Big 12-SEC Challenge.

Chris Washburn had 14 points and nine rebounds while Brandon Parrish scored 14 and Karviar Shepherd 13 for the Horned Frogs (10-11), who had a pair of 10-0 runs in the second half.

Trent started one of those runs with two free throws to put the Frogs were ahead 56-55 with weight minutes to play. It was their first lead since Chauncey Collins' 3 with 14 minutes left in the first half made it 16-15. Over the next three minutes, Trent had two more free throws, Shepherd made a jumper and Washburn had back-to-back baskets -- a slam dunk and a tip-in.

Tennessee (10-11) missed 15 of 16 shots in one stretch, including 10 in a row to fall behind by 12 until Kevin Punter's three-point play with 1:20 left.

Punter scored 24 points for the Volunteers, who shot only 33 percent (23 of 69) and blew a double-digit lead after halftime for the second game in a row.

The Vols had a 15-point lead with 14 minutes left Wednesday night before losing 63-57. Tennessee is 1-9 on the road this season.

It was a tough return to Texas for first-year Tennessee coach Rick Barnes, who for the previous 17 seasons was in the Big 12 as coach of the Longhorns. Barnes was 8-0 against the Frogs while with Texas.

TCU trailed 41-27 before scoring 10 consecutive points to start the second half. Trent had a layup and a 3-pointer to start it, and the Frogs were within 41-37 on a 3 by Parrish with 17:21 left.

Armani Moore finished with 10 points, and was part of nine consecutive points for Tennessee in the first half that put the Volunteers ahead.

After Shepherd's jumper tied the game at 18 with 10-1/2 minutes left in the first half, Moore had a steal and a breakaway layup.

That was the first of three turnovers and six consecutive missed shots for the Frogs in a nearly four-minute stretch before Shepherd scored again.

Tennessee also had two turnovers and two misses before Moore had another layup. Then Punter had a steal, passed to Moore and got the ball back for a 3-pointer that made it 25-18.
