Syndergaard sizzles in Funny Cide at Saratoga

It is far too early to make reservations in Louisville on the first Saturday in  May 2017. However, Syndergaard, the horse named after Mets' starter Noah Syngergaard, has displayed tremendous ability in his first two starts.

Syndergaard ran in the $200,000 Funny Cide at the Spa on Friday, and he was every bit as impressive -- if not more -- in rolling to victory.

Syndergaard was 6-5 on the morning line but the crowd hit him hard at the betting windows and he went off at 3-5 and paid $3.40 for a $2 win bet.

The victory came off his debut score earlier in the meet.

Another horse named for another Met hurler, DeGrom -- for Jacob deGrom -- wasn't as successul in his race at New Jersey's Monmouth Park.

Degrom took the short route to the finish line, maintaining rail position throughout the race and closed to finish third.
