Stockton beats Bakersfield 3-2 in an AHL outdoor game
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) Oliver Kylington and Drew Shore scored in the third period to help the Stockton Heat beat the Bakersfield Condors 3-2 on Saturday night in an outdoor game that was postponed Friday night beat of heavy rain.
A crowd of 9,357 attended the American Hockey League game at Raley Field, home of the San Francisco Giants' Triple-A baseball team. The game was part of a six-week event dubbed the ''Biggest Show on Snow.''
It was 52 degrees at the start and partly cloudy throughout the game, the eighth outdoor game in AHL history.
''It was a great experience,'' Shore said. ''It was something I've never done before, or been a part of, so obviously it was a little weird with what happened last night, but it was an awesome experience and getting the win made it even better.''
Kylington gave Stockton a 2-1 lead at 7:26 and Shore padded the margin at 10:59.
Derek Grant also scored for Stockton and Joni Ortio made 33 saves for the Calgary Flames' top affiliate.
''It was daylight when we went out there and it faded into the night, which is pretty cool,'' Grant said. ''The ice wasn't too bad for how it was earlier today. I think we did a good job sticking with our game plan and we were able to get the two points.''
Kyle Platzer scored twice for Bakersfield, the Edmonton Oilers' farm club.
