StaTuesday: The NBA longevity of Bucks' Terry

Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo was 4 years old when Jason Terry was selected 10th overall by the Atlanta Hawks in 1999.

Thon Maker was 12 when Terry was named NBA Sixth Man of the Year in 2009.



Fast forward another nine years to this season, and all three are playing together in Milwaukee on a roster that spans two generations thanks to the 6-foot-2 guard out of Arizona.

When the 40-year-old Terry re-signed with the Bucks in September, he became the 18th player in history to be active in 19+ NBA seasons. Only seven players have suited up for more campaigns, led by Robert Parish, Kevin Willis and Kevin Garnett with 21.

Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks and Sacramento’s Vince Carter are the only two active players who’ve played more seasons (20) than Terry.

Terry is tied with Cliff Robinson (18 seasons) for 12th all-time in games played -- 1,380. And mark your calendars, Bucks fans: Terry is 11 games away from surpassing one-time teammate and coach Jason Kidd.

Terry is the 20th player in NBA history to suit up at the age of 40, and the first Bucks player to do so.

Out of the 40-year-old senior NBA citizens, Karl Malone averaged the most minutes per game with 32.7 while playing for the Lakers in 2003-04. Former Bucks great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is second with 28.9, but he set that mark in Los Angeles (1987-88) as well.

But in terms of guard – a position that thrives on speed and agility – Terry ranks even closer to the top. His 10.2 minutes per game this season slot him at sixth in NBA history among 40-year-old guards or guard-forwards.

Although he’s not seeing the playing time he once was as his 19-year career winds down, Terry shows us he’s still got it from time to time. He knocked down four 3-pointers in a 110-96 win over the Bulls – his 147th career game with at least four makes from downtown.
