Sporting KC's Gutierrez to miss 2-3 months following sports hernia surgery 

Midfielder Felipe Gutierrez, who started the season on fire, will be sidelined for two to three months after undergoing a successful sports hernia operation Tuesday.

Gutierrez, 27, scored five goals in Sporting KC's first five games and was named MLS Player of the Month for March.

He arrived at Sporting KC in February after spending the first eight years of his professional career in Chile, Netherlands and Spain.

Sporting KC, which is 5-2-2 and in first place in the Western Conference, hosts the Colorado Rapids at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
