Sporting KC waives Joya and Volesky ahead of season opener
Sporting Kansas City has waived two players as the club prepares for its 22nd MLS season to begin.
Midfielder Benji Joya and forward Christian Volesky were both waived, the club announced Monday.
Joya, 23, joined Sporting KC last September, appearing in the team's 3-1 CONCACAF Champions League win over Central FC.
Volesky, 24, joined the club in January after playing the previous two years with the USL's Rochester Rhinos. He made four preseason appearances.
The club will kick off its season Saturday, visiting D.C. United at RFK Stadium in a 6 p.m. CT kickoff on FOX Sports Kansas City and FOX Sports Midwest.
