Sporting KC selects two midfielders in opening rounds of 2019 MLS SuperDraft

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Sporting Kansas City selected a pair of 22-year-old midfielders on Friday in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft.

The club took Kamar Marriott of Florida Gulf Coast University 21st overall, then picked Camden Riley of the University of the Pacific in the second round (No. 45 overall).

The first two rounds were conducted Friday. The third and fourth rounds -- in which Sporting KC holds the No. 69 and No. 93 picks -- will be held Monday via conference call.

Marriott, a 6-foot-4 midfielder also capable of playing in central defense, contributed to 26 shutouts in 64 career appearances for Florida Gulf Coast from 2014-18. He helped the Eagles to two NCAA Tournament appearances, three regular-season Atlantic Sun Conference titles and two conference tournament championships.

Riley was Pacific's all-time leading scorer, recording 19 goals and 10 assists from 2015-18. He started 57 of 66 matches for Pacific and made NCAA Tournament appearances in each of his last three seasons as the Tigers went 38-13-6 during that stretch. As a senior in 2018, Riley scored a team-high nine goals and five assists and was named a United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-American, the West Coast Conference Player of the Year and a MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist.
