Sooners to face former Baylor OC vs. Tulsa

New Tulsa coach Philip Montgomery is pretty familiar with the Sooners.

And that's not great news for Oklahoma.

Montgomery, who has spent the last seven seasons before this year as the offensive coordinator at Baylor, has brought the same system that has had success against OU to Tulsa.

Tulsa and Oklahoma play in Norman, Okla., Saturday.

This season Tulsa is 2-0 and has scored 87 points combined. The Hurricane rank fifth in the nation in total yards (609) and 10th in passing (372).

"To average 600 yards in the first two games, that's pretty special," OU defensive coordinator Mike Stoops said. "Their system is pretty fool proof. They have executed very well."

Meanwhile, Oklahoma has struggled against Montgomery's offense in the past.

Last year, OU gave up 387 passing yards from Bryce Petty in a 48-14 Baylor win in Norman. The season before, in Waco, Texas, Baylor beat OU 41-12.

"They have given us fits the past couple years," junior cornerback Zack Sanchez said. "I think we'll be just fine and another test as we go into the Big 12."
