Sooners QB Mayfield gets scholarship but denied immediate eligibility

Oklahoma announced quarterback Baker Mayfield will earn a scholarship but his appeal to the NCAA for immediate eligibility has been denied.

Mayfield, who transferred from Texas Tech, argued he was a non-recruited walk-on at Tech last year and should be able to transfer without penalty, however Texas Tech never released Mayfield. 

Mayfield started five games last season and passed for more than 2,300 yards and 12 touchdowns. He will be eligible next season at OU and have two years of eligibility remaining.
