Solid Wager wins 2nd straight Cary Grant Stakes at Del Mar

DEL MAR, Calif. (AP) Rallying from last place, defending champion Solid Wager forged ahead in the final strides to win the $100,000 Cary Grant Stakes by a half-length Sunday at Del Mar.

Ridden by Victor Espinoza, Solid Wager ran seven furlongs in 1:22.51 and paid $7.60, $4.20 and $3.20 as the 5-2 second choice.

Grazen Sky returned $6.40 and $4, while Acceptance was another half-length back in third and paid $5.20 to show.

Magic Mark, the 2-1 favorite, finished fifth in the field of eight.

The victory, worth $57,000, increased Solid Wager's career earnings to $429,921, with seven wins in 30 starts. It was the 5-year-old gelding's first victory since the Grant Stakes last fall.

Espinoza also won the sixth and seventh races. Peter Miller, who trains Solid Wager, also captured the fourth and fifth races.
