Simon strikes out 13 in 12-1 win
TUCSON - Josh Garcia hit two home runs, Cole Frenzel collected five RBI and Kyle Simon struck out a career-high 13 as the No. 19 Arizona baseball team routed visiting North Dakota State 12-1 on Saturday at Sancet Stadium.
The Wildcats hit three home runs and the Bison one on a blustery day in Tucson, as wind gusts reached 30 mph.
Simon, an eight-game winner last season, gave up only one hit in 7.2 innings, a solo home run in the fourth inning. He recorded his 13 striekouts without issuing a walk and retired 14 batters in a row after giving up the home run. Matt Chaffee recorded the final four outs.
Freshman Johnny Field also homered for the Wildcats, who conclude the season-opening series on Sunday at noon.
