Royals sign free-agent RHP Pino

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Royals today signed right-hander Yohan Pino to a major-league free-agent contract and designated right-hander Casey Coleman for assignment.

Pino, 30, was 2-5 with a 5.07 ERA last season with Minnesota and walked 14 hitters in 60 1/3 innings while striking out 50.

Pino made his major-league debut against the White Sox on June 19, allowing two runs on five hits over seven innings. He got his first win on July 10 over Seattle, working five innings of a 4-2 win.

Pino was 10-2 with a 2.47 ERA at Triple-A Rochester last season.

Along with Minnesota, Pino has pitched in the Cleveland Indians (2009-11), Toronto Blue Jays (2011-12) and Cincinnati Reds (2013) organizations.
