Royals keep staff fresh during doubleheader by swapping Stout for Barlow
With the Kansas City Royals looking to keep their pitching staff fresh in between games of their Saturday doubleheader with the Chicago White Sox, they recalled right-hander Scott Barlow and optioned lefty Eric Stout to Triple-A Omaha before Game 2 of the twin bill.
The 25-year-old Stout made his major league debut on Wednesday, allowing a run on two hits and a walk through 2/3 of an inning against the Milwaukee Brewers. He pitched in long relief in Game 1 of the doubleheader on Saturday, allowing two earned runs on two hits and a walk over 1 1/3 inning.

Barlow, 25, has served as the 26th man for the Royals' two previous doubleheaders this season but has yet to pitch in a major league game. This time he's an official member of the 25-man roster, and he'll look to make his MLB debut in the coming days. In three appearances (two starts) for the Triple-A Omaha Storm Chasers this season, Barlow has a 0.75 ERA with 13 strikeouts and seven walks over 12 innings.
