Royals designate Blanton to make room for Cueto

The Kansas City Royals announced Tuesday that right-handed pitcher Johnny Cueto has officially joined the club and will be in uniform (No. 47) for Tuesday night's game against the Cleveland Indians. In a corresponding roster move, the Royals designated right-handed pitcher Joe Blanton for assignment.

Blanton appeared in 15 games this season for the Royals, including four starts. He pitched a total of 41 2/3 innings with a 3.89 ERA and 40 strikeouts. 

With this move, the Royals have 38 players on their 40-man roster.
