The Royals have signed infielder Maikel Franco to a one-year contract, according to a report by MLB.com that has not been confirmed by the team.
According to the report, the deal is for $2.95 million and potentially another $1.05 million in performance bonuses.
Franco, 27, is expected to become the Royals' regular third baseman. Hunter Dozier, the team's primary third baseman last season, would move to the outfield.
Franco hit .234 with 17 home runs and 56 RBIs for the Phillies last season. He had career highs of 25 homers and 88 RBIs with Philadelphia in 2016.
