Report: Gordon faces year ban after failed test

ESPN's Adam Schefter posted on his twitter account Sunday afternoon that Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon has failed yet another drug test and will be subject to a one-year suspension from the NFL.

Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio later reported that Gordon tested positive for alcohol. He was subject to alcohol testing after a DWI arrest last July.

Gordon finished the season on team suspension for missing the teams final walk through practice before they played the Ravens.

At the end of the season, head coach Mike Pettine said the offseason put Gordon "squarely at a crossroads" with the franchise.

Pettine added: "You have to be accountable to your coaching staff. You have to be accountable to your teammates, more importantly. That’s the thing that we have to get right with Josh. It’s not the ability, but at some point you get tired of using the word potential."

He missed the first 10 games this past season after being suspended by the leagueunder an NFL suspension for failing a substance abuse test. Due to the drug policy, which was revised this past September, Gordon would be suspended for a year.

After a breakout season in 2013 that resulted in a Pro Bowl berth, Gordon finished with just 24 catches for 303 yards and no touchdowns in five games in 2014.

The Browns issued this statement shortly after the report came to light.

"Clearly we are very disappointed to hear the latest report regarding Josh. At this point, due to the confidential nature of the NFL’s substance abuse policy, we have not been made aware by the league of a failed test. We are in the process of gathering more information and will provide further comment at the appropriate time.”

Said General Manager Ray Farmer about Gordon at the end of the season: "I'm not going to say that. I would tell you that I strive in every respects to give every guy the opportunity to achieve success. I’m not going to diminish, talk bad, or not try to help someone achieve the end goal which is to get it right and I’ll take it as far as I can get it. Whenever that determination is made this person is done with the Browns, we’ll make that determination then. Every player that I will stand by, I will work with them  and I’ll make sure that they get the best -- whether it’s help that they need, whether it’s assistance, whether it’s opportunities, I will fight tooth-and-nail to get those guys those things and when they demonstrate that they’re either un-savable or we can’t help them anymore, or they don’t want the help, then we’ll move on. It's different for every single guy."
