Redhawks dive on Central Michigan 68-58
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) -- Nick Winbush scored 20 points, Antonio Ballard had 18 points and 11 rebounds and Miami (Ohio) used a late 12-0 run to defeat Central Michigan 68-58 on Thursday night.
Winbush had nine rebounds for the RedHawks (9-11, 4-2 Mid-American).
Jalin Thomas scored 23 points and made seven 3-point shots for the Chippewas (5-14, 2-4). Trey Ziegler had 17 points.
After a Ziegler jumper tied the game at 56-all with 5:13 remaining, Central Michigan did not score again until a garbage layup with two seconds to play. In between, the Chippewas went 0 for 4 from the field, and Ziegler missed the front end of two 1-and-1s. Meanwhile, Miami scored 12 straight, led by a Winbush three-point play and five free throws by Julian Mavunga.
The RedHawks won the inside battle, outrebounding Central Michigan 34-23 and enjoying a 46-24 points-in-the-paint edge.
