Rays' Longoria out with forearm soreness, Cobb set to throw BP session

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -- Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria is out of the lineup because of left forearm soreness.

Longoria, who was pinch-hit for in the final inning of Wednesday night's 3-2 win, 13-inning win over Seattle, said he could come off the bench in Thursday's matchup with the Mariners.

Longoria said the arm is sore but didn't rule out playing Friday night against San Francisco.

Right-hander Alex Cobb, coming back from Tommy John surgery 13 months ago, will throw 15 fastballs in his first batting practice session Saturday.

Cobb will have three or four BP sessions on a five-day schedule before starting a minor league rehab assignment. He may return in late July or early August.

Right fielder Steven Souza Jr. was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left hip strain. He was hurt diving for a ball Tuesday night. Left-hander Blake Snell was recalled from Triple-A Durham to start Thursday's game.
