Rangers send down Martinez for Gonzalez

Right-hander Nick Martinez, who allowed seven runs in 3 2/3 innings Wednesday night, was sent to Triple-A Round Rock Thursday to make room for Chi Chi Gonzalez.

Gonzalez was the starter for the Rangers Thursday in a move that was needed because the club had to push back Cole Hamels because of a sore groin.

Gonzalez was 2-4 in seven starts for the Rangers with a 3.74 ERA from late May to July 3. He's 5-7 with a 4.09 ERA in Round Rock.

For the season Martinez is 7-7 with a 4.09 ERA. Over his last seven starts with the Rangers he has a 7.12 ERA and opponents are hitting .314.
