Rangers interview two more for managing job

The managing search for the Texas Rangers continued Wednesday as the club interviewed both Jeff Banister and Joe McEwing for the job.

The Rangers have now interviewed five people for the position. They still have to meet with interim manager Tim Bogar, Cleveland bullpen coach Kevin Cash and former big leaguer Joey Cora.

Banister has been the bench coach for the last three seasons for Pittsburgh under Clint Hurdle. He has ties to Texas as he grew up in LaMarque High School and attended Baytown Junior College. McEwing has been the bench coach for Chicago White Sox for the last three seasons. Before that he managed for four years in the Sox system.

Texas interviewed Boston bench coach Torey Lovullo for the job Tuesday. They have already interviewed pitching coach Mike Maddux and Round Rock manager Steve Buechele.

Texas general manager Jon Daniels said after the season the club was targeting the week of Nov. 20 as a best guess for naming Ron Washington's successor.
