Rangers interview Maddux, Buechele for manager

The interview process for the manager's job for the Texas Rangers began Tuesday as the club interviews pitching coach Mike Maddux and Triple A manager Steve Buechele.

The club still has one more internal candidate to interview in interim manager Tim Bogar.

Sunday Texas general manager Jon Daniels said the club would interview around four or five external candidates, but hadn't made contact with any of them at that time. That was before Minnesota fired its manager Ron Gardenhire. Gardenhire has ties to the area as he grew up in Oklahoma and went to college at the University of Texas.

This is the second job managing job Buechele has interviewed for. He had a phone interview for the Houston job at A.J. Hinch got Monday.

Maddux has been the pitching coach for the Rangers since 2008. Buechele, who spent the majority of his playing career with the Rangers, had managed in the Texas system for the last six years.

Daniels said he'd like to have a manager in place by the week of Oct. 22 but that there was no timeline.

Bogar managed the Rangers the final 22 games after Ron Washington's resignation and the club went 14-8 under him.
