QBs share offensive MVP award

Arizona's three quarterbacks shared the Most Valuable Player on offense award given out at the team's annual awards banquet this weekend.

Juniors Nick Foles, Matt Scott and Bryson Beirne shared the offensive MVP award, with coach Mike Stoops citing their hard work and consistent teamwork in the Wildcats' winning season that will culminate in the Dec. 29 Valero Alama Bowl.

Senior defensive end Brooks Reed, a first-team All-Pac-10 pick, was named Defensive MVP.

Junior transfer receiver Dan Buckner, who had to sit out the year but practiced against UA's top defense, was named offensive scout team MVP, while true freshman defensive tackle Aiulua Fanene earned the honor for defensive scout team work.

Colin Baxter was named winner of the Tedy Bruschi Award for exemplary leadership and overall winning effort.

Senior cornerback Mike Turner, a starter on kick-coverage units, was named Special Teams MVP

The Cats, 7-5, will play No. 16 Oklahoma State (10-2), the nation's top offensive squad, in the bowl at the Alamodome in San Antonio. It's Arizona's third consecutive bowl appearance, matching the school's best streak, and gives the program a chance at matching its 8-5 records of the past two seasons.

UA is taking a few days off during final exams early this week and will return to the practice field Thursday to continue preparations for the bowl. The Cats will leave town on a charter flight to San Antonio on Christmas Eve, headquartering at a downtown hotel on the city's Riverwalk.
