QB Matt Joeckel transferring from Texas A&M

Texas A&M's roster is down to two scholarship quarterbacks.



Senior quarterback Matt Joeckel, an Arlington, Texas native, announced plans to transfer on Wednesday. He graduated in December with a degree in business and will be eligible to play immediately if he transfers to a FBS school.



"I have loved my four and a half years at Texas A&M. I am glad I had the opportunity to play for Coach (Kevin) Sumlin, Coach (Jake) Spavital and the rest of the coaches," Joeckel said in a release. "I'll always consider myself a member of the Aggie family."



Sumlin didn't declare a starter this spring, but with Joeckel's transfer, the Aggies' competition is down to sophomore Kenny Hill and incoming freshman Kyle Allen.



Hill was suspended indefinitely after a public intoxication arrest last month.



Allen, a Scottsdale, Ariz. native, was the nation's No. 1 quarterback in the 2014 class and enrolled in January before taking part in spring practice.



Joeckel's older brother Luke, a former Aggies offensive tackle, was the No. 2 pick in the 2013 draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
