Preakness winner Exaggerator joins Haskell field
OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) Preakness winner Exaggerator has joined the field for Sunday's $1 million Haskell Invitational, setting up another matchup against Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist.
Monmouth Park's racing office said Wednesday it was told by Exaggerator's connections that the colt is headed to the Jersey shore for the race.
Exaggerator ran second to Nyquist in the Derby, then handed Nyquist his only loss in the Preakness. Exaggerator finished 11th in the Belmont Stakes in his most recent start.
Nyquist had beaten Exaggerator four times before the Preakness. This time, it'll be Nyquist looking to turn the tables.
Also set for the Grade 1 Haskell are Gun Runner, Brody's Cause, Sunny Ridge, American Freedom and Awesome Slew.
Exaggerator is training at Saratoga in upstate New York, and the original plan was for him to run in the Jim Dandy on Saturday.
