Point guard George Marshall leaving Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. -- George Marshall, a redshirt sophomore
guard, has left the Wisconsin men's basketball program and will explore his
transfer options, according a school release Saturday.

"George came and talked to me and he informed me that
he wanted to pursue his options of playing somewhere else," Badgers coach
Bo Ryan said in a statement. "I told him we would help in any way we could
to facilitate his transition to a new school. He's a great kid, from a terrific
family and we wish him luck as he continues his academic and athlete
career."

Marshall was in position to see minutes in a backup role
this season. But he suffered a concussion during a Nov. 15 practice before
Wisconsin's game against UW-Green Bay, and he missed the next four games. That
allowed freshman Bronson Koenig to step in and fill those minutes. Marshall did
not play in the next three games after being medically cleared to return.

Marshall played in only two games this season, averaging
12.5 minutes and 2.0 points.

A year ago, Marshall started the team's first six games
before Traevon Jackson took over as Wisconsin's starting point guard. Marshall
played in all 35 games last season and averaged 15.8 minutes and 4.1 points.

For his career, the Chicago, Ill., native appeared in 37
games at Wisconsin, averaging 4.0 points and 1.0 assists.

"I love my teammates and the team, and I'm thankful to
the university and coach Ryan for the chance to play at Wisconsin,"
Marshall said in the release. "I'm excited to look for a new
opportunity."
