Perine getting better as the year goes on

Last season, Oklahoma got beat badly by Baylor and running back Samaje Perine had just five carries.

This season, Perine had 10 carries in the first half, 18 more in the second half and 166 yards for the game.

The 28 carries were the most since last season against Kansas when Perine ran for 427 yards – an NCAA single-game record. 

Perine has shown an ability to be better in second halves, too. A season ago against West Virginia he went for 131 yards in the second half, had 205 against Kansas after the break, too. This season, Perine had 71 yards against Texas Tech after halftime and 47 against Tennessee, after only 31 in the first half.

Perine has been better the second part of this season, too. Over the first five games this year, he was averaging just 70 yards per game. He's at 121 in the past five games. 

Perine ran for a Big 12 best 1,713 yards last season and has 972 this season, averaging 5.8 yards per carry.
