Peralta leaves game with wrist injury
PHOENIX -- In looking ahead to the offseason, Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale before Thursday's game said he wants outfielder David Peralta to take a break from baseball and get some rest because the outfielder plays so hard.
Just a couple hours later Peralta injured his right wrist sliding in an attempt to catch a sinking line drive.
Peralta's wrist on his glove hand bent back as he hit the ground in the fourth inning and the ball popped out for a run-scoring double for the Rockies' Rafael Ynoa.
Peralta was checked by trainer Ryan DiPanfilo but finished the inning. Peralta was pulled from the game in the bottom of the inning for pinch-hitter Socrates Brito.
X-rays taken in the clubhouse were negative and Peralta is considered day to day, the D-backs announced.
"My glove got caught in the grass and my wrist bent all the way back," Peralta said after the game, grabbing at the heavily taped wrist. "I thought for sure it was broken.
"Thank God nothing is broke; it's just sore. The good news is it's not broken."
Peralta will receive a thorough exam from the team doctor Friday and his status for this weekend's season-concluding series against the Astros will be determined afterward.
"It's not swelling or nothing so we'll give it a day and see how I feel tomorrow," Peralta said. "It's kind of sensitive, so we'll see how it feels."
Diamondbacks outfielder David Peralta grabs his wrist after a sliding attempt at a catch in the fourth inning Thursday.
Peralta, who singled in his only at-bat earlier in the game, is hitting .312 with 43 extra-base hits and 78 RBI in a breakout season.
"I know David, and Ender (Inciarte), too, they both need a rest," Hale said before the game.
Peralta ranks eighth in the National League in batting average, sixth in slugging (.522) and fifth in OPS (.893).
"He's done so much this year to make himself a better hitter," Hale said. "He's going to be a big part of what we hope is a championship team next year."
