Panthers recall defenseman Jakub Kindl, goalie Mike McKenna

SUNRISE, Fla. -- Florida Panthers Executive Vice President and General Manager Dale Tallon announced Monday that defenseman Jakub Kindl has been recalled from the club's American Hockey League affiliate, the Portland Pirates. Additionally, the Panthers announced goaltender Mike McKenna has been recalled from Portland on an emergency basis.

The 29-year old Kindl has recorded six points (2-4-6) and a plus-three rating in 25 games with Detroit this season and four points (3-1-4) in 10 games with Grand Rapids (AHL). Kindl has played 273 NHL games all with Detroit (2009-16) recording 68 points (16-52-68). Kindl was acquired by the Panthers from the Red Wings in exchange for a sixth round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft on Feb. 27, 2016.

The 6-foot-3, 199-pound native of Sumperk, Czech Republic was selected by Detroit in the first round (19th overall) of the 2005 NHL Draft.

The 32-year old McKenna has played in 40 games with Portland this season posting a 25-11-2 record with two shutouts. The 2016 AHL All-Star ranks tied for fourth in the AHL in wins (25), fifth in goals against average (2.30) and tied for sixth in save percentage (0.922).

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound native of St. Louis, Mo., has played in 22 NHL games, recording a 5-11-2 record with a 3.48 goals against average, .889 save percentage and one shutout with Arizona (2014-15), Columbus (2013-14), New Jersey (2010-11) and Tampa Bay (2008-09).

McKenna was originally selected by Nashville in the sixth round (192 overall) of the 2002 NHL Draft.

Additionally, the Panthers announced defenseman Michael Matheson and forward Greg McKegg have been assigned to Portland (AHL).
