Pakistan in firm control of 1st test, leads by 342 runs

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates (AP) Pakistan took firm control of the second test against a deflated West Indies on Sunday with a massive 342-run lead despite captain Misbah-ul-Haq not enforcing the follow-on.

West Indies was bowled out for 224 and Pakistan, which then held a 228-run first innings lead, finished the third day at 114-1.

Both openers Azhar Ali (52 not out) and Sami Aslam (50) scored half centuries after successfully going for television referrals against lbw decisions early in their innings off Kraigg Brathwaite's offspin.

Earlier, Pakistan seamers and spinner Yasir Shah made batsmen sweat for runs as West Indies could add only 118 to its overnight total of 106-4 in two sessions before being bowled out at tea.

Shah grabbed three wickets with the second new ball after lunch to finish with 4-86 while Rahat Ali (3-45) and Sohail Khan (2-35) effectively used the reverse swing to trouble the West Indies.
