Packers release running back Davis

Just two weeks after acquiring running back Knile Davis from the Kansas City Chiefs, the Green Bay Packers are cutting ties with the fourth-year running back.

The Packers released Davis on Monday after he carried the ball just three times in a loss to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 8.

Green Bay sent the Chiefs a seventh-round pick Nov. 18 in exchange for Davis, who had just five carries for five yards in two games the Packers.

Davis had fallen out of favor with the Chiefs following the emergence of Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West behind ailing star Jamaal Charles, and struggled in Green Bay as well.

The Packers are thin at running back following injuries to starter Eddie Lacy and third-down back James Starks, but opted for wide receiver Ty Montgomery and undrafted rookie Don Jackson over Davis despite the trade.
