Packers put Nelson on IR, cut seven players to get to 75-man roster

The Packers had to reduce their roster to 75 players Tuesday and did so by putting wide receiver Jordy Nelson on injured reserve and waiving or releasing seven other players. The Packers released five players on Monday.

Wide receivers Javess Blue and Jimmy Hunt were given the waived/injured designation. Quarterback Matt Blanchard, wide receiver James Butler, linebacker Adrian Hubbard, defensive back Kyle Sebetic and tight end Harold Spears were released.

By putting Nelson on IR, his season is officially over.

Blanchard, the former UW-Whitewater star, completed 11 of 16 passes for 107 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the preseason. With Brett Hundley and Scott Tolzien backing up Aaron Rodgers, there was no room for a fourth quarterback.

Blue, Butler and Hunt each did not have any receptions this preseason while Spears caught two passes for six yards. Sebetic and Hubbard both had four tackles, while Hubbard also had a sack.

Green Bay finishes up its preseason slate Thursday vs. New Orleans and then must get down to a 53-man roster by Saturday at 3 p.m. CT.
