Orlando Magic put up billboards thanking Jameer Nelson

The Orlando Magic, in recognition of the 10 years Jameer Nelson spent with them, have placed two billboards in Orlando to thank him. The billboards are located at the State Rt. 408 and Kirkman Avenue exchange and on Interstate 4 just south of downtown between the Michigan Avenue and Orange Blossom Trail exits.

The Magic also dedicated the home page of OrlandoMagic.com to their former point guard.

Nelson was waived Monday, one day before the start of the NBA's negotiating period between teams and free agents. He had one year at $8 million remaining on his contract, and the Magic saved $6 million in the move. Two teams which are expected to be in the bidding for Nelson's services are the Miami Heat and the Detroit Pistons. The Heat are in need of a veteran point guard, while going to the Pistons would reunite Nelson with Stan Van Gundy, who coached the Magic from 2007 to 2012.

The 32-year-old Nelson departs as the Magic's all-time leader in assists with 3,501. He also ranks second in games played (651) and field goals attempted (7,033), third in minutes played (19,038), three-pointers made (874) and three-pointers attempted (2,335), fourth in scoring (8,184 points) and field goals made (3,109) and fifth in steals (619).
