Obama honors UConn women for another national championship
WASHINGTON (AP) President Barack Obama is honoring the University of Connecticut women's basketball team for winning its fourth consecutive national championship and 11th overall.
In a ceremony Tuesday in the White House East Room, Obama says the UConn women, who finished their season undefeated, defy the old saying that you can't win all the time.
Obama notes that UConn won its games by an average of 40 points. In doing so, the president says they set a high bar for excellence that gives all teams a mark to shoot for, including the men's teams.
Obama notes that coach Geno Auriemma has never lost in the NCAA's championship game and describes Auriemma as one of the world's foremost experts on ''tough love,'' and a lifelong friend and mentor to his players.
