NFL's leading rusher DeMarco Murray getting surgery on hand

IRVING, Texas -- DeMarco Murray, the NFL's leading rusher and an MVP candidate, is undergoing surgery Monday to repair a broken bone sustained in Sunday night's win at Philadelphia.

In breaking the news on 105.3 The Fan, Cowboys COO Stephen Jones said Murray has not yet been ruled out for Week 16 against Indianapolis.

"DeMarco Murray has a broken bone in his hand," Jones said. "At the same time, he hasn't been ruled out. It's not something that if it responds well after surgery today, that he can't come back and play this weekend. it's probably a tough expectation to think that he can, but we'll see."

Murray's injury is to the fourth metacarpal, the bone above the ring finger. He leads the league with 1,687 yards on 351 carries through 14 games, which is the most in franchise history. If he can't play on Sunday, the Cowboys will  turn to Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar, with a possible call-up of practice-squadder Ryan Williams.
